There is a well-documented mismatch in the supply and demand of Neuro-ophthalmologists. We have sounded alarms alerting our colleagues in other ophthalmic and neurologic subspecialties with limited success. Recent survey data of ophthalmology residents pursuing other subspecialties indicates that Neuro-ophthalmology is excluded as a career choice by 75% prior to the PGY3 year and before many residents have rotated in Neuro-ophthalmology. |
