Description Central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) occurs as a result of rapid correction of chronic hyponatremia. The typical clinical features are spastic quadriparesis, pseudobulbar palsy, and mental status changes. Extrapontine myelinolysis (EPM) associatied with CPM is usually located in thalamus, putamen, and lateral geniculate body. Isolated EPM is rare.
