Description Intrauterine CNS injury and panhypopituitarism are independently associated with increased childhood mortality. We examined five children with septo-optic dysplasia who died suddenly and unexpectedly. One child had schizencephaly but was endocrinologically normal. The remaining four had endocrinological deficiencies including serum cortisol deficiency in three patients and antidiuretic hormone deficiency in two.
