Description Although there are several etiologies for optic atrophy, compression by intracranial masses or aneurysms is of particular concern. One infrequently reported cause of compressive optic neuropathy (CON) is compression of the intracranial portion of the optic nerve by an anomalous or ectatic internal carotid artery (ICA).
