Subject Giant Cell Arteritis; Temporal Artery Biopsy; Vasculitis; Headache; Vision Loss
Description Clinical signs, symptoms and elevated serum inflammatory markers may support the diagnosis of giant cell arteritis (GCA), but a positive temporal artery biopsy (TAB) is often considered paramount in confirming it. Patients may be sent to ophthalmologists or other surgeons for TAB. Ophthalmologists typically perform a complete eye examination to help further assess the need for TAB, while other surgeons usually perform the biopsy without additional evaluation.
