| Title | Walsh & Hoyt: Mycoplasma hominis |

| Subject | Infectious Diseases; Mycoplasma; Mycoplasma hominis |
| Description | Colonies of M. hominis are about 200300 micrometers in diameter and, like M. pneumoniae, have a characteristic ""fried egg"" appearance when grown on culture media. There are at least seven serotypes of M. hominis, but no particular serotype has been identified as a cause of any particular disease. Compared with other mycoplasmas, M. hominis expresses a high level of genetic recombination. This feature may explain why isolates from different persons differ to such a high degree. |
