AIDP usually is characterized by an ascending and symmetrical motor weakness starting in the legs and associated with hypotonia and areflexia. The weakness may precede areflexia by 2 or 3 days. The trunk, intercostals, neck, and cranial nerves are usually but not always affected later. Both proximal and distal muscles usually are involved. |
