Description Ureaplasma urealyticum is one of several species in the genus Ureaplasma. These organisms were originally called ""T strains"" or ""T mycoplasmas"" because they produced very small (tiny) colonies ranging from 1560 micrometers in diameter. There are at least 14 serotypes of U. urealyticum. There is no evidence that any particular serotype is associated with a particular disease.
