Mutual Assured Learning; An Alternative to Traditional Residency Training

Traditional residency programs use lectures as a major teaching method. This presentation reviews a structured three-year program of quarterly rotations with weekly subspecialty tutorials for individual residents on the rotation (using oral examination format) and topic-focused conferences (with didactic reviews) as an alternative teaching approach to lectures and the nonfocused general/subspecialty conference. This methodology is referred to as Mutual Assured Learning (MAL).
