Description When University of Utah Hospital opened the region's first Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NBICU) in 1968, babies born weighing less than three pounds didn't have much chance for survival. Tomorrow (Wednesday, February 2), a handful of babies who weigh less than one pound, will be among 36 of the region's most critically ill and premature newborns to move into the hospital's new NBICU. The move is expected to take approximately four hours.
