Description Biotin is an essential vitamin which is important for synthesis of fatty acids, catabolism of certain amino acids and gluconeogenesis. It is particularly important for mitochondrial function. Biotinidase deficiency is an autosomal recessive condition in which the enzyme responsible for normal recycling of biotin is deficient resulting in a loss of biotin.
