Isolated complete saccadic palsy is rare, since the nucleus responsible for generation of horizontal saccades (the paramedian pontine reticular formation; PPRF) is in the pons, while the nucleus responsible for the generation of vertical saccades (the rostral interstitial nucleus of the medial longitudinal fasciculus; riMLF) is in the midbrain. |
