Description |
Margaret Red Elk, originally from Poplar, Montana (Fort Peck), discusses her experiences since moving to Heber Valley in 1962 to teach, a decision that has kept her in the area ever since. Having spent a couple of years in Springville, Utah, as a teenager through the LDS Church's foster placement program, she found comfort in Heber's rural setting, which reminded her of her childhood home on the plains, contrasting sharply with Utah's mountainous landscape. Margaret has observed Heber Valley's significant growth and transformation over the decades, noting that her children benefited from ample opportunities and resources while growing up. She also highlights her dedication to maintaining her Native traditions while away from home and raising a family, actively participating with her family in sharing these traditions with the current community, and expresses excitement for the new temple in Heber for its convenience in continuing her temple work. |
