Anatomy: Predominantly 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th cranial nerves. Referred pain from the Circle of Willis to behind the eye. Upper cervical nerve roots. Pathology: Varies; Disease/Diagnosis: 1.Headache, a. Hypertensive headache, b. Vascular headache, c. Spinal headache, d. Migraine, e. Cervical occipital neuralgia, f. Glossopharyngeal neuralgia, g. Post herpetic neuralgia, h. Temporal arteritis, i. Cervical root/nerve compression. Clinical: Significance of presence of spontaneous venous pulsations, intracranial cerebrospinal fluid pressure below 225 mm. of water; Loss of previously seen spontaneous venous pulsations is one of the earliest ophthalmic signs of increased intracranial pressure or papilledema. |
