Description Reverend France Davis came to Utah in 1972 to teach classes at the University of Utah, where he taught communications and ethnic studies courses for 42 years. He served on the board of Utah Humanities from 1994-2000, including as chair. He also served on the Utah Board of Corrections, Salt Lake Community College Board of Trustees, and Utah Board of Regents. Reverend Davis served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church for 47 years. In his interview he talks about being involved with the singing of African American hymns and ensuing discussions and an oral history project. A pivotal experience for Reverend Davis on the Utah Humanities board was meeting with Native Americans in southern Utah and learning about them, from them. One of the successes he feels was being able to engage communities in fundraising for the humanities.
