Description Nowhere is the hybrid field of neuro-ophthalmology more useful than in the evaluation of the patient with symptoms of ocular, meningeal, and cortical disease. 1 The frequent concurrence of uveal tract signs and symptoms in patients with systemic neurologic disease mandates a rudimentary knowledge of the basic categories of uvea-encephalitis. Many of the entities discussed during this session are treatable of potentially treatable entities. Their initial presentation may be as a uveitis; closer questioning will uncover signs and symptoms of meningeal or cortical involvement that initially might not be apparent. Prompt diagnostic maneuvers and treatment may prevent permanent systemic or neurologic compromise.
