Title Walsh & Hoyt: Ethylene Glycol
Creator Paul H. Phillips, MD
Affiliation University of Arkansas
Subject Optic Nerve Diseases; Malnutrition; Toxicity; Optic Neuropathy; Ethylene Glycol
Description Ethylene glycol is the active ingredient in automobile antifreeze and may be consumed accidentally or in a suicide attempt. This poison deserves at least brief mention, since there is evidence that it is toxic to the optic nerve and because the metabolic consequences resemble those of methanol poisoning with which it could easily be confused.
