| Description |
The Ouray Spring Teepee near Montrose stands behind a short rock wall lightly covered with snow. The concrete teepee houses a cold-water spring from which Ouray, chief of the Utes from 1820 until 1880, and his wife, Chipeta, obtained drinking and cooking water. People have tracked footprints in the snow around the teepee that is now called the Ouray Memorial Park. Two signs stand on either side of the teepee warning people of a $100 fine for defacing the site. |
