Description |
This section of the fingertip illustrates the layers of relatively thick skin. We can easily distinguish the basal layer and spiny layer (both proliferative), the granular layer, and the layer of enucleated, dead cells, the cornified layer. Within the dermal papillae numerous capillaries can be observed. Note the epidermal pegs and the characteristic absence of blood vessels in the epithelium. UCLA Histology Collection. |
