Topics include: Memories of what Vernal looked like when Carl was young; Names, locations and owner/proprietors of the different business on Main Street and Vernal Avenue; Carl's father running cattle, and teaching school; The death of Carl's youngest sister when he was nine-years-old; A summer spent in California while his father attended Berkeley school; His L.D.S. baptism in Rock Point Canal; The ranch that the family lived on in the summers; Attending Central School and seminary; Various church leaders, different Wards, and where the congregations met; The donation of produce and farm goods as tithing; His father's peach orchard; His sister's musical studies and playing for Sunday school, picture shows, and dances; Ice Skating; Local fights and shootouts people went to court for; His grandfather being the first Sheriff of Uintah County; His grandmother's service as Relief Society President; Attending church in a schoolhouse; Attending Uintah Academy; His father working as a school teacher and then Superintendent; Carl's work in California as a finish carpenter; Returning to Vernal after retirement; Transportation by rail and horse & wagons; and outlaws that stayed in the area. |
