In contemporary society, media and technology are omnipresent; technological developments are influencing communication, production, trade, urban culture and arts. Digital media are now used widely in the domain of art. As a result, contemporary art reflects upon the characteristics of multimedia, which breaks down the boundaries of each media. The connections among art, technology, media and society are continuously explored by the artists, scientists and civil organizations through new collaborations. Due to the digital media which makes it possible for artists and audiences to interact, the conception of art has shifted from see-and-know to participate-and-experience. I propose an experimental form of public space that reflects the shifted concept of arts: A Technology and Contemporary Art Center. It will be a place where people can learn about new media and technology through the interaction with digital art works. This will be an experimental space for merging edges of technology and digital contents. It will be a hub for scientists and artists where the outcome of their collaborations can be delivered to the general public in the form of exhibition and education programs. Scientists support the artist with new technologies that artists can use in expressing their idea creatively, and the general public will learn how to utilize the new technology. By this interaction, the distance between the general public and technologies will reduce. |
