Description |
As discussed earlier in this chapter, peripheral nerves consist of axons ensheathed by Schwann cells. Endoneural fibroblasts are dispersed among these basic cell types, and groups of axons with their associated Schwann cells are delimited by a sheath of perineural cells. The outermost aspect of each peripheral nerve is a fibroblastic epineurium. As the term ""neurofibroma"" implies, many investigators believe that the cell of origin of this tumor is the fibroblast. |
