Description |
Snowslide at Highland Boy, 17 February 1926. At 8:00 pm the slide came down Sap Gulch and destroyed much of the district. Thirty-nine bodies were recovered, fifteen hospitalized, twenty-five families and some 200 borders were homeless. Gold, silver, lead, and then copper were mined in Bingham. General Patrick Conner's men from Fort Douglas actually staked the first claim in the canyon. At its peak, Bingham was seven miles long but less than a city block wide. The town was unincorporated in 1971 and demolished to make way for further mining development. |
