| Description |
Malignancies can cause optic neuropathy by invading the perineural sheath or the optic nerve and HLM seems to account for the majority of such cases. Overall, 5-9% of non-Hodgkins lymphoma and 20% of leukemia patients have CNS involvement. There have been a few case reports of optic neuropathy with HLM in the past and the diagnosis is often delayed because of the lack of familiarity with this entity. However, high mortality of CNS and optic nerve involvement makes early diagnosis very valuable. |
