PC Power Managment - Demian Hanks CSBS followed up with an energy analysis after last October's presentation in IT Managers on energy consumption. CSBS was running at about 4x higher consumption than recommended ($0.8-0.10/machine/day -> $0.1-0.2/machine/day is best-case scenario). Took them 4 hours to install the vendor software (Verdiem - PC Network Power Management), and they anticipate 24 hours of an admin's time annually to support it. Can exempt certain profiles from being shut down (desktop wiped). The software offers a lot of configurability. Scheduled wakeup that requires BIOS support or can do a total suspend solution. CSBS will have 700 licenses; could "slice off" some licenses and other departments could use those to test. Should we involve OSL? Licenses are not per/client. They go through Facilities with a subsidy. (Some reporting required to Facilities.) This is an XP-only solution. AMD step-down built-in coming; other vendors will be building in power management. Why do this? Because costs are recouped within a year, no real downsides to do this.
