Description Glaucoma is an age-related, chronic neurodegeneration of the optic nerve. The molecular and cellular pathologies that characterize glaucoma are shared by other chronic neurodegenerations such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Therapies directed at treating chronic neurodegenerations could potentially be used to treat glaucoma, and conversely therapies that are successful in treating glaucoma could be used to treat other chronic neurodegenerations.
