Show A group of students of varying ages are posing on the steps of Ferry Hall. They are standing in eleven staggered, slightly disorganized rows. At each end of the stairs, there stands a group of seven men or boys, all dressed in dark suits and most are wearing ties and dark dress shoes. The row in front is off-center, and five of the men at the top are resting their hands on the shoulder of the person immediately next to them. Two other men probably intended to be in the front row as well crowd behind the man to the right extreme of the front row, who is putting something in his overcoat. Behind the front row in the very center of the image is Herbert Ware Reherd, then President of Westminster College, wearing his usual hat. The rest of the rows in between are predominantly women in light blouses with dark skirts and high lacing shoes, though a few vary from that style and there are a few men scattered among them. |
Further Information |
Picture is in mediocre condition. The upper right and lower left corners have been torn off, and there is a large crease from being folded right across the middle that looks as though it's threatening to tear. On the front a series of numbers in blue ink remain partially in the lower left corner: "[…]15-16". The back is covered in glue from where it was peeled off of something; some remains of a lightweight, nearly transparent paper like wax paper or tissue paper remain stuck to it. A piece of scotch tapes holds the two halves together where it ripped before along the center crease. Penciled handwriting writes "#2", and "1913-16". Ferry Hall began construction on October 10, 1907 and was finished two years later due to lack of funding. The hall bore the name of Colonel William and Jeannette Ferry, Park City residents who contributed $15,000 of the $25,000 needed to erect the hall. The Ferry's were also a crucial factor in securing the land (in 1901) that Westminster College call |
