Subject Encephalitis Lethargica; Diagnosis
Description Encephalitis lethargica has not occurred as an epidemic since 1930. Sporadic cases continue to occur, however, many of which are mistaken for encephalitis caused by other entities. The somnolent-ophthalmoplegic form, however, is quite unlike any other type of encephalitis, and the onset of with negative studies for known causative agents, should suggest the correct diagnosis.
