Description Lorentzen was the first investigator to propose an autosomal dominant inheritence pattern for optic nerve drusen. He found that the prevalence of drusen among first-degree relatives was 7.8%, significantly higher than that observed in the general population (2.04%). Lorentzen's observations were based largely on direct ophthalmoscopy through undilated pupils.
