Description The Herpesviridae family of DNA viruses includes four genuses: 1) Simplexvirus (HHV-1 and HHV-2); 2) Varicellovirus (Varicella-zoster virus=HHV-3=VZV); 3) Lymphocryptovirus (Epstein-Ban vims=HHV-4=EB V); 4) Cytomegalovirus (Human cytomegalovirus = HHV-5 = CMV) and other herpes viruses unassigned to genuses known as HHV-6, HHV-7 and Herpes B virus. Virus/host cell interactions involve attachment of the virus particle to the cell surface. Virion attachment proteins (VAP) on the virus surface interact with specific host receptors on the cell membranes.
