Description Carl R. Richens became bishop in 1927. His motto was, "I would rather be bishop one year and accomplish something than serve years and do nothing." He had sites on building a new chapel for the Maeser Ward. With counselors, W.E. Bodily and Leroy E. Carroll the build committee meeting's often lasted until way into the night. A site was selected by Orson F. Whitney, which was just south of the Maeser School. Moroni Gerber and his sons built a brick kiln and fired most of the bricks. The old Relief Society Building and the Omaha Saloon were demolished and the bricks were salvaged and used in the brick design of the building. Ground was broken on 7 May 1929 and was dedicated on December 29 of that same year by Apostle Ballard. In 1941 the chapel grounds were improved with new walks, fencing and landscaping.
