Show This is a black and white horizontal photograph of a hospital room. In the room are two rows of metal beds accompanied with chairs, a polished floor, tall windows at the right and back wall, and two big open doors at the left. At the end of the aisle a lone tray on wheels can be seen. Standing around the center of the room are four women nurses and a man, and there are at least four patients lying in the beds, the two most visible being men. Two nurses are standing on the left on either side of a bed, with two more standing directly across from them at the right. All of the nurses are wearing white hats and gowns, and the one on the left and in the back is the only one not holding onto a bed's metal frame. A man stands in the center in the back who is wearing dark pants, dark shoes and a white shirt. All the nurses have their hair tied up and the man has his hair parted. In the beds there are two patients across from each other in the foreground, and at least two more in the far back on the left. What appears to be a medical chart on a clipboard is hanging at the end of each occupied bed. The closest patient on the left is on top of the covers and wearing a white shirt, black pants with suspenders, and black shoes. His left hand is placed over his heart and seems to be holding to his suspenders. Across from him, another patient is under the covers save for his left arm which is lain straight down. He is wearing a jacket and has a mustache. Four tall windows appear along the right wall with their wooden shades open like doors; three windows are along the back wall and all have their shades closed. In front of one of the windows at the right is a desk with a few vases of flowers, and behind the flowers there is what appears to be a tall mirror with a note attached. Along the center of the room are hung three pairs of silver lamps. A wire in the foreground is also hung from the ceiling, going from one patient's bed to the other. Another wire is faintly seen in the background, rising from a bed at the right. Two large doors are open at the left side of the room, creating a break in a row of beds. The left door has a picture on it with a large white frame, and though the image is too dark to make out, it appears to have a white, puffy cloud sky in its background.

|
Further Information |
This photograph is glued to a black piece of cardboard. The photograph has a few tiny white specks in the bottom left corner and sparsely distributed across the image, but the exposure of the image shows good lighting on the polished floor and ceiling, nice shadows and details. At the bottom white margin of the photograph is written in pen and in cursive, "Holy Cross Hospital Ward." On the back of the matting the surface is gray, and in a corner is written in pencil and in cursive, "Haines 1.50." The original photograph is located in the Hannah Claire Haines Scrapbook in the Giovale Library Archives. |
