Description Cars are parked in front of the Newton Brothers Store on North Vernal Avenue. The small white building to the left was the Vernal Express. William and Isaac Newton opend a shoe shop in 1905, later they bought the Showalter Vernal Harness and Saddle Company in 1909. By 1918, their holdings, including land and cattle were worth almost $85,000. By 1922, they were broke because of the ecomonic crash of WWI. The brothers returned to work and by the 1930's they were doing very well again. The Newton Saddle Company and the Newton men became a legend in Vernal, Utah.
