Description |
Harvesting salt in the salt field 10 miles west of Salt Lake City. The tractor operated salt shovel at the extreme left is dumping salt into a hopper where it is carried by a belt up and dropped on the pile seen on the right. The salt is evaporated in huge diked ponds with the aid of the sun. It is harvested in October after several inches of salt have accumulated during the summer. The salt is refined at a near-by plant and shipped throughout the intermountain west. |
