Gladstone was a mining camp associated with the Gold King Mine, with its active periods from 1887 to 1907 and 1916 to 1923. The stamp mill was destroyed in a fire in 1907. This and other mine facilities in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado were major customers of early hydroelectric projects in the region |
