Leading the Utes were junior Vanessa Mortensen, freshman Nicki Hugie and sophomore Vance Twitchell who all earned victories in their events. Mortensen won the hammer with an impressive 58.27m throw. Hugie claimed gold in the 1,500m B race with 4:50.28, while Twitchell won the 5,000m with 15:06.42. Twitchell also finished fourth in the 3,000m-steeplechase (9:34.82). Sophomore Amanda Feigt finished fourth in the heptathlon, scoring 4,856 points. This marks the first time she has competed in the heptathlon. Feigt posted personal records in the javelin (28.05m), shot put (10.08m) and the 100m-hurdles (14.64) during the multi event. Her mark in the heptathlon ranks fifth on Utah's all-time list. The Ute throwing squad dominated the discus, taking eight of the top ten marks. Junior, AJ Roby led the way with a second-place finish (48.78m). However, Roby was the top collegiate finisher in that event and her mark was a new personal record, school record and NCAA regional qualifying mark. Senior Candice Workman-Ekberg finished third (48.08m), followed by freshman Nicole Farnsworth at fourth (45.34m) sophomore Sidni Taylor at fifth (42.22m), and senior Amber DeVries at eighth (39.95m). Workman-Ekberg was the top collegiate finisher in the shot put. She finished second with 14.36m. Sophomore Jennifer Cutrer continues to improve in the hurdles. Today, she posted a 14.51 finish in the 100m-hurldes and earned third place. Sophomore Dustin Cutrer finished fourth in the javelin throw (54.26m) while senior Colby Frazier took second in the 1,500m B Race with 3:58.71. |
