Description |
6240 Ogden Hot Springs. Reached by Utah and Northern branch of the U.P. Railroad and also by motor line every hour from Ogden, Hot Springs was a popular resort as early as 1875. Its history began with its exploration by John C. Fremont in 1843, but it was not until near the 1880's that Rason H. Slater, a Salt Lake horse doctor staked it out as a homestead. He used the boiling waters for horse medicine. It worked for people, also. Soon people were coming from all areas to soak in the hot, curative waters and in 1889 Mr. Slater sold the property for $50, 000. A full scale race track operated during the 1890's. Gift of M.J.
