Jonas Erekson filed a homestead on this land in 1850 with a "patent" later given to him by the United States and signed by Ulysses S. Grant on 8/10/1875 for 160 acres. He brought his wife, Mary J. Powell to this home in 1852. Architectural style: Greek Revival Central Passage. It was a two story adobe home of 5 rooms. In 1869, Jonas Erekson married a second wife, Isabella Markham Benbow and built another home to the SW of the first one. They lived here until 1891 when Mary died (Jonas had died in 1881). |
