| Description |
Delta is one of the youngest towns in Utah. It was founded about 1906. It's first name was Akin having to do with the Union Pacific Railroad. Its name was changed to Melville in honor of James Melville who helped divert water from the Sevier River to the new town. The name was changed again to Burtner in honor of a popular railroad employee. When this name was objected to by the railroad sometime after 1905, the Millard County Chronicle had a contest to name the town. The winner was John Steele with the name DELTA. |
