Description |
PX-400-302 PRESIDENT KENNEDY CONSERVATION TOUR. President John F. Kennedy and party stopped over in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 26 and 27, 1963, during a conservation tour which took him through many of the western Reclamation states. Before his departure on the 27th a short ceremony was held at the municipal airport at which he pressed a key to start the first generator at Flaming Gorge Dam in Utah. Senator Frank E. Moss (Utah) watches as President Kennedy presses telegraph key to give direct line tone signal to Jean R. Walton, Project Construction Engineer at Flaming Gorge Dam, to start rolling the first generator. About 15 seconds later, Mr. Walton responded to the President that the generator was started and was turning at full speed. Left to right: Senator Moss, the President, and Assistant Commissioner W. I. Palmer. September 27, 1963--Bureau of Reclamation photograph by Mel Davis. |
