Content Description +/-This collection consists of class schedules published by Westminster College, Salt Lake City, Utah between 1971 and 2004. Beginning in the Spring of 2004, class schedules were made available only as college web documents. The class schedules cover a specific time period, generally one of four date-specific categories: interim (in the Academic years 1971–1981), Spring semester, Summer/May Term, and Fall semester. Some schedules cover two periods, such as a Fall semester with the following Spring semester. There appears to be no established frequency. After 1994, the college began publishing Fall and Spring schedules with the two-period format exclusively, and a single schedule to cover May Term/Summer semester (two schedules published per year). All class schedules list undergraduate classes unless otherwise noted. The schedules are organized fairly uniformly into departments by a title or abbreviation listing a class, a class number, location, instructor, prerequisites, and any special fees. The classes are then listed in numerically (ascending) by their class number. Typically, the class schedule usually contains an academic calendar listing any important semester dates including when semester begins and ends, holidays, breaks, and exam schedules. Most class schedules are given a generic Westminster title. However, certain class schedules have a specific Westminster title limiting coverage to "City Center Campus," "School of Professional Studies," or "Midtown Campus." The City Center program of the City Center campus was "designed to blend with education benefits offered by employers. Westminster College offers on-site classes in order to facilitate the education of the people in the work force." Likewise, the "Westminster College School of Professional Studies offers degree programs, certificate programs and training programs coordinated with the educational benefits offered by employers. Classes are taught after business hours in order to help individuals employed in Salt Lake area businesses and industries achieve their educational goals." In 1985, in the last schedule for the School of Professional Studies included in this series, a bulletin is made announcing that the classes held at the School of Professional Studies were moving to the new Midtown Campus. In 1986 the first graduate program, the Master of Education, was established. In 1987, a Master of Business Administration program was also established (it was later expanded in 2002, becoming a Master of Business Administration in Technology Management program). In 1992, a Master of Professional Communication degree program was offered. In 1995, a Master of Science Nursing program was established. 1997 was the only time a separate class schedule for graduates was published. In 1998, a Special Education Endorsement program was offered. In 1999, a Legal Assistant program was initiated but did not continue. Other general campus and civic information can be found in the introduction of these schedules, including instructions on how to register, where to get parking permits, and information concerning food services and housing. Some class schedules contain a map of the campus. Others contain information on whether special programs were currently available (e.g., beginning in 1987 there are night and weekend class schedules, evening degree programs, and Credit For Life Experience programs). These schedules will usually have information about classes offered at the Midtown Campus. Gaps in the collection: any additional 1971 schedules besides Interim term; any 1972-1974 schedules; Fall semester, 1990; Fall semester, 1991; Spring semester, May Term/Summer, 1996; May Term/Summer, 2000; Spring semester, 2002.
