Description | Address: 740 South 300 West, Salt Lake City. The old LDS 5th Ward building, constructed in 1910, was used by the Latter-day Saints ward until 1975. Since then it has housed various functions, and currently is the Urgyen Samten Ling Gonpa Tibetan Buddhist temple. The Tibetans, whose "sangha" began around 1994, obtained it in 2004, completely remodeled the interior, and moved in from a smaller space at 345 W. Pierpont Avenue in 2005. The space is shared with other groups, including a Taoist meditation group, the Red Lotus School of Meditation. [2023 update: Vacated in 2019, when the Tibetans moved to rented space on 8th West. Currently vacant.] |
