ITIN. 17 May 1951 x Ekkers ranch just 25 miles E of Hanksville, Wayne County, Utah. 6000ft. Motored south through Greenriver. Passed through much dry area Shick served as location for many sagebrush communities. in route. Many semi-desert birds were seen Many Lepuda californicus were seen along way. In the evening 15 traps were set with rolled oats as bait Trap line continued into along a dead juniper tree fence. small juniper pinyon cauutiaits. One Peromyscus maniculatus was caught. 18 May 1951 Morning was spent preparing specimens trapped during the evening. Many Sylvilagus nuttalii_ were seen and shot. No large predators were seen in area although it is said that there do exist coyotes in the area. Several antelope In the evening the 15 traps were seen down in the valley. were set in a juniper pinyon community at the base of the trees and in the burrows. ‘Two Neotomalepuda_were caught in the traps. 19 May 1951 Specimens were prepared in the morning. In the afternoon ‘he community was very we journeyed to Robbers Roost. different there becuase of the abundance of water. Eutamias dorsalis were seen. Several A Coryporhinus rafinesquii was caught in one of the caves. Citelius variagutus were also seen. 20 May 1951 Return to Salt Lake City, Utah through the same territory which we had passed in entering the area. SPECIES REPORT Neotoma lepuda 18 May 1951 Ekkers ranch just 25 miles & of Hanksville, Wayne Utah. H#levation is 6000 ft. county Two specimen were trapped in a pinyon juniper community running along the top of a small bluff. ‘raps were set about every 40 yards with rolled oats used as bait. specimens were taken. Area was very dry. a clayish sandish texture. was noticed. In the 15 traps only these two Soil was of Very little percipitation Pinyon berries were faind in the belly of one of the specimens. SPECIES REPORT Peromyscus maniculatus Ekkers ranch Just 25 miles east of Hanksville, Wayne county, Utah. Elevation is 6000 ft. Single specimen was trapped along a fence of dead junipers. General arewas quite dry with sagebrush commnity running along the boundry formed by the fence. Trap line was set along this fence and out into a small juniper pinyon community which wes at one extreme end of the fence. Sixteen traps were set and only One specimenk was caught. ‘the traps were baited with rolled oats. Trpas were set at mxmry aproximately every 30 yards. CATALOGUE Mus muscula caught by Gaines was prepared. to the west of the Salt Lake Vity airport. dimensions 131-60-18-14 mm.
