Description |
The development of a model for determining the pulmonary capillary transit time and its distribution function is presented. This principle provides a basis for separating the influences of the ventilation to perfusion ratio and the kinetic mechanisms on oxygen exchange. The derivation of the model is based on general mass balance equations. Three stable isotopes (i.e., 13C02, C0180, and C1802 ) are used as tracer gas in order to measure the required parameters of the model. Computer algorithms for extraction of the transit time distribution function are presented in detail. |
