Description Posterior cortical atrophy (PCA) is a rare progressive neurodegenerative disease with prominent cortical visual dysfunction, also known as the visual variant of Alzheimer's disease. Since initial description by Benson in 1988, PCA has been described in small case series and case reports, but only over the last decade has attention been increased. Clinical presentation is heralded by subjective vision loss, yet a normal ophthalmic examination, although there is not yet definitive diagnostic criteria.
