Description We have demonstrated that Familial Dysautonomia (FD) or Riley Day syndrome is associated with a specific optic neuropathy that resembles other mitochondrial optic neuropathies. In this study we provide histopathologic evidence that mitochondrial dysfunction occurs in the optic nerves of FD patients.
