Title Close Your Eyes and Release a Hallucination
Creator Stephen F. Johnson, MD
Affiliation Missoula, Montana
Subject Unformed Hallucinations; Primary Sensory Cortex; Complex Hallucinations; Temporal Lobe Structures
Description Forester and Penfield produced unformed hallucinations by direct stimulation of primary sensory cortex and complex hallucinations by stimulation of association areas, especially temporal lobe structures. Cogan emphasized that many types of visual hallucinations are perceptual release phenomena and indicated that failure to distinguish ictal from release hallucinations made localization of the brain lesion more difficult. But what about a patient who has both ictal and release hallucinations simultaneously?
