Description After injury of the rat optic nerve in adult rats, axons do not regenerate and there is significant loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). We have previously shown that the intraocular injection of db cAMP, either before or after axotomy, promotes axon regeneration in the optic nerve. It is unknown whether db cAMP also enhances the survival of axotomized RGCs in this system.
