Description Cortical blindness is a rare and typically transient adverse reaction to the administration of iodinated radiographic contrast. Radiographic contrast is widely used in diagnostic imaging. Although iodinated contrast material may produce hypersensitivity reactions, the etiology of cortical blindness following the administration of iodinated contrast material may be related to its biophysical properties and its effect on the blood-brain barrier.
