Subject Optic Neuritis; Multiple Sclerosis; Plasma Cell; Immunoglobulin
Description Multiple sclerosis (MS) and optic neuritis (ON) are two overlapping conditions within a broad and complex spectrum of human demyelinating disorders. Although genetic susceptibility and environmental factors play a role in the pathogenesis of both conditions, the cause of ON and MS remains unknown. The most widely hypothesized pathogenic model for these idiopathic demyelinating disorders is a T cell-mediated pro-inflammatory immune response against myelin antigens.
